John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie. This announcement follows previous reports of various attempts to bring the classic board game to the big screen, dating back to 2007.
Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment will produce the film. Daley and Goldstein's involvement brings a fresh perspective, following their recent work on Mayday and their contributions to The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Previous attempts, including those involving Ridley Scott, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, Andrew Niccol, and Kevin Hart, ultimately failed to materialize.
Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro appears to have reignited the project, offering a renewed opportunity to bring this long-gestating adaptation to fruition.
