Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Approaches Launch as Fox Hunt Multiplayer Delayed

Metal Gear Solid Delta Nears Release With Multiplayer Mode Coming Later

The long-awaited Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will launch in just weeks, though fans will need to wait until autumn to experience Fox Hunt, the game's dedicated online multiplayer component.

While the core single-player campaign debuts August 28 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, Konami has confirmed Fox Hunt will arrive as a post-launch update later this fall. No specific date has yet been provided.

A New Take on Metal Gear Multiplayer

First revealed in June, Fox Hunt represents a completely fresh multiplayer experience distinct from Metal Gear Online (MGO), which launched alongside Metal Gear Solid 4 in 2008 before shutting down in 2012.

Veteran Metal Gear developer Yu Sahara, now serving as Fox Hunt's director, emphasized this new mode offers fundamentally different gameplay despite sharing the Snake Eater universe. "The multiplayer landscape has evolved dramatically since MGO," Sahara noted. "We wanted to create something novel that pushes Metal Gear's core stealth and survival mechanics to new heights."

Reimagining Classic Stealth Gameplay

Sahara explained Fox Hunt would elevate the series' signature camouflage mechanics and hide-and-seek gameplay rather than focusing on traditional shooter elements. "This isn't just another team deathmatch - we're delivering an authentic stealth multiplayer experience," he added.

Metal Gear Solid Delta represents a full remake of the acclaimed 2004 PlayStation 2 title, though series creator Hideo Kojima has publicly stated he won't be playing the new version. The game preserves the original's Cold War-era setting and jungle combat while completely rebuilding its visuals using Unreal Engine 5.
