What Is Max Level/Rank in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Level Cap Explained

Authore: MilaUpdate:Mar 21,2025

Assassin's Creed: Shadows boasts a massive scale, complemented by a deep progression system. This guide details the maximum levels and how the leveling mechanics work.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin's Creed: Shadows?

Assassin's Creed: Shadows introduces a revamped progression system. While skill unlocks heavily rely on Knowledge Ranks (explained later), traditional XP-based progression remains. Gaining XP unlocks higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, simultaneously boosting Naoe and Yasuke's base stats.

Reaching Level 35 allows exploration of all Japanese provinces. However, the XP grind extends far beyond. While initially believed to be 40, the XP level cap is actually 60. Further increases are likely post-launch with the Claws of Awaji expansion.

Knowledge Ranks, a significant progression update, operate separately from XP leveling. Earn Knowledge Points through open-world activities to increase your Knowledge Rank, unlocking new skills for Naoe and Yasuke. However, Mastery Points are still needed to activate these skills.

Reaching Knowledge Rank 6 unlocks all available skills. The progression doesn't stop there; a new Knowledge tree with passive skills opens up after Rank 6, allowing for refined character builds.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin's Creed: Shadows?

Mastery Points, akin to skill points, unlock skills across six Mastery trees per protagonist. Many activities award Mastery Points. While a theoretical limit exists, reaching it requires extensive gameplay. The Claws of Awaji expansion will likely introduce additional ways to earn Mastery Points.

Does Assassin's Creed: Shadows Have Level Scaling?

Each Japanese province has a level requirement, with Kii initially demanding Level 35. As your XP level increases, some provinces' level requirements scale upward. However, a late-game scaling floor exists; from Level 42 onward, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below your current XP level, maintaining a consistent challenge.

Assassin's Creed: Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
