Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, developer NetEase has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recent discussions with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas offer promising news for Switch fans. Wu confirmed that NetEase is actively engaging with Nintendo, acquiring development kits, and exploring a Switch 2 release. The primary reason for skipping the original Switch was the inability to deliver a satisfactory gameplay experience. Wu explicitly stated that if the Switch 2 can meet their performance standards, a port is definitely on the table.
The Nintendo Switch 2, unveiled last month, promises enhanced power and capabilities compared to its predecessor. Rumors suggest a mouse-like control scheme, potentially bridging the gap between console and PC shooter experiences. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
While a release date for the Switch 2 is still pending (a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd), Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
