Image Comics provides the following synopsis for Lost Fantasy:
In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters into our reality. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to protect our world from these creatures. But a recent catastrophic event in Montana has shattered this fragile peace, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart must now confront this escalating threat.
"I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy—a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the rich world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with," Pires shared with IGN. "Games like the Final Fantasy series heavily influenced the design, with our protagonist's spiky hair and large sword directly inspired by Tetsuya Nomura's iconic design for Cloud."
Pires continues, "The 'Lost' in the title is a subtle homage to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a criminally underrated masterpiece from Mistwalker. The comic's core is deeply rooted in my love for JRPGs."
