Pokemon GO Leaks Reveal Upcoming Dynamax Raids Featuring Legendary Birds
A recent, quickly deleted tweet from the official Pokémon GO Saudi Arabia Twitter account revealed an exciting upcoming event: Dynamax Raids featuring Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno! These legendary birds will reportedly appear in Dynamax Raids from January 20th to February 3rd.
This leak marks a significant development for Pokémon GO, as it would be the first time legendary Pokémon appear in Dynamax Raids. While Dynamax Pokémon were introduced in September 2024, this is the first time this feature will extend to the popular Kanto legendary trio.
Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno have long held a special place in the hearts of Pokémon fans. Their previous appearances in standard raids, along with their Shiny variants, were incredibly popular. The Galarian forms also saw a release in Daily Incense spawns in 2023 (albeit with a lower spawn rate), and Shiny Galarian versions became available in October 2024. This upcoming Dynamax Raid event suggests Niantic is continuing to find new ways to engage players with these beloved Pokémon.
The premature announcement, spotted by Reddit user nintendo101, was swiftly removed. This suggests the official announcement was likely unplanned, hinting at a possible upcoming reveal from Niantic. The addition of these iconic legendary birds in Dynamax form could revitalize interest in Max Raids, which have faced some criticism regarding their difficulty, particularly the requirement of 40 players for successful completion.
The potential inclusion of these legendary Dynamax Pokémon opens the door for other iconic legendary Pokémon to receive the Dynamax treatment in future Max Raids. Given that Pokémon Sword and Shield featured Dynamax forms of Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, and others, this seems a likely future development for Pokémon GO. However, whether the difficulty of these legendary Dynamax Raids will be adjusted remains to be seen.
This leak comes amidst a flurry of other Pokémon GO event announcements for early 2025. Niantic has confirmed Ralts as the star of the next Community Day Classic on January 25th, a Shadow Raid Day featuring Shadow Ho-Oh on January 19th (with up to seven free Raid Passes available), and the host cities for Pokémon GO Fest 2025: Osaka, Jersey City, and Paris.
