Konami Unveils New Suikoden Mobile Game

Suikoden is back—sort of. Konami and MYTHRIL have announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, slated for release later this year. This free-to-play title marks a new chapter for the beloved series, first introduced in 1995.

For the uninitiated, Suikoden, created by Yoshitaka Murayama and inspired by Water Margin, is a celebrated RPG series known for its intricate political narratives, True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny. Eleven games, including spin-offs, have graced the gaming world since 1995, the last arriving in 2012. While not a direct sequel, Suikoden STAR LEAP aims to capture the essence of the series.

What Awaits in Suikoden STAR LEAP?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while retaining the series' signature collection of 108 heroes. The game boasts pixel art, maintaining the classic Suikoden aesthetic. See for yourself:

The story centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes, and follows Hou, the son of a village chief, whose life takes an unexpected turn after a devastating attack. Joined by his servant Hisui, childhood friend Shirin, and former general-turned-butler Shapur, Hou embarks on a quest to restore peace.

While the announcement has been met with mixed reactions from the community—longtime fans eagerly anticipating a true sequel—Suikoden STAR LEAP's gacha mechanics remain a point of discussion. Further details will emerge closer to the game's release. Visit the official website for the latest updates.
