Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Version

Authore: NicholasUpdate:May 25,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies for Japan and the rest of the world. This highly anticipated gaming console will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system available exclusively in Japan, and a Multi-Language System version for global markets. The Japanese version is priced at approximately $330, while the Multi-Language System version will be available at $449.99, a difference of over $100. This pricing discrepancy is largely due to the current weakness of the yen against the US dollar, making it less appealing for tourists to buy in Japan.

Residents in Japan have the option to purchase either the Japanese-language system or the Multi-Language System version. However, the Japanese-language system is strictly for sale within Japan and can only be linked to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japanese region. This version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.

For fans interested in using the Nintendo Switch 2 in multiple languages, Nintendo recommends opting for the Multi-Language System version. More detailed information about this version will be disclosed on April 4.

Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store

Purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 will involve entering a lottery system through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, subject to availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • By February 28, 2025, have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software, excluding demo and free software.
  • At the time of application, have a cumulative subscription to Nintendo Switch Online of at least one year and be an active subscriber.

Further details regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
