007 Actor's Secret Identity Revealed by Fans

James Bond fans have quickly reached a consensus on who they believe is the (not-so) secret actor portraying the iconic spy in 007 First Light.

The game's new trailer, unveiled during Sony's State of Play, features a distinctly younger-looking Bond, freshly discharged from the Royal Navy and eager to prove himself worthy of 00 status. But the burning question remains: who is behind this new interpretation?

Shortly after the trailer's release, Reddit users began speculating that Patrick Gibson, star of Dexter: New Blood, is the man behind the new Bond — and the resemblance to the in-game character is certainly striking.

"I recognized him THE MOMENT I saw that trademark mischievous grin," one 007 enthusiast commented. "Yeah, I spotted it immediately as well," another agreed.

"While watching the trailer, I knew the face looked familiar," a third fan noted. "After a minute or so, it hit me — 'DEXTER.' I'm almost certain it's him."

At 30 years old, the Irish actor is only slightly older than the 26-year-old version of Bond he appears to be playing in the upcoming game — and potentially in future sequels, if IO Interactive has its way.

If Gibson seems familiar to you, it's because he already boasts an impressive portfolio of film and television roles, with appearances in Shadow and Bone, The Tudors, and The OA. However, he is best known for playing a younger Dexter Morgan in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.

Interestingly, 007 First Light developer IO Interactive has yet to officially confirm Gibson's involvement — though IGN has reached out to the studio for comment on the widespread speculation. For now, Gibson himself appears to be staying quiet.

A press release accompanying the trailer, which seemingly marks Gibson's debut as Bond, describes the game as a globe-trotting, story-driven action-adventure where players can approach challenges either through brute force or Bond's signature charm.

The trailer showcased Bond delivering dry one-liners as he navigates various dangerous situations. Gibson's experience portraying the complex antihero Dexter seems perfectly suited for the role.

007 First Light is scheduled for release in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For those who missed it, here's a full recap of everything announced at Sony's June 2025 State of Play event.
