The Pokémon Company International shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest Pokémon TCG card unboxing livestream, opening over 20,000 cards in a 24-hour marathon. This impressive feat, achieved on November 26th, 2024, celebrated the launch of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion.
A Record-Breaking Livestream Event
The livestream, broadcast on Pokémon's official Twitch channel, featured popular online personalities including Serebii's Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. The trio diligently opened approximately 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products, culminating in a staggering collection of over 20,000 cards. This achievement was officially confirmed by The Pokémon Company's press release.
Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators."
The event wasn't just about breaking records; the collected cards will be organized and donated to charities before the holidays, including Barnardo’s in the UK. Furthermore, the Pokémon Company hinted at future giveaways on participating content creators' channels within the next two weeks.
Celebrating Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks
Released on November 8th, 2024, the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Indigo Disk DLC. This set features powerful Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, such as Archaludon ex with its formidable Metal Defender ability. Fans can also find iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, and new additions like Alolan Exeggutor ex and Tatsugiri ex. The expansion also boasts Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare cards showcasing tranquil scenes, featuring Pokémon like Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas. New Tera Pokémon ex, including Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, add further excitement to the TCG. The expansion is also available digitally via the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game bonuses for collecting and battling with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex.
