Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on course for a fall 2025 release, according to parent company Take-Two Interactive. The publisher reaffirmed the anticipated launch window during its Q3 fiscal year 2025 earnings report, which ended December 31, 2024. At this time, there have been no official delays announced, and GTA 6 is still slated to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In an interview with IGN prior to the financial report’s release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed confidence in Rockstar Games’ ability to meet the target release period.
“There's always a risk of slippage,” Zelnick stated when asked about his confidence in hitting the fall 2025 window. “But we feel really good about it.”
When questioned further about the game’s development progress, Zelnick remained characteristically tight-lipped.
“I think the game is eagerly anticipated both internally and externally,” he said. “We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. Arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders. We know the competition isn’t asleep. Our whole organization is super excited.”
With such high expectations surrounding the title, rival studios are watching closely. This was made evident earlier in the week when EA CEO Andrew Wilson hinted at potentially shifting the new Battlefield title out of the next fiscal year based on competitor release schedules—an indirect nod to the potential market impact of GTA 6.

While the release date remains unchanged, fans are still awaiting the arrival of GTA 6’s second trailer. It has now been over a year since the first cinematic reveal, fueling widespread speculation across communities. In the interim, IGN offers additional insights into the game, including commentary from former Rockstar developers who suggest the studio may not finalize any potential delay until May 2025, as well as Zelnick’s noncommittal remarks regarding a possible PC release and expert analysis on whether the PS5 Pro will deliver 60 frames per second performance for GTA 6.
On the broader success of Rockstar’s existing titles, Take-Two reported that Grand Theft Auto V has now surpassed 210 million units sold globally. Meanwhile, GTA Online continues to thrive, with strong engagement driven by the Agents of Sabotage update. Additionally, GTA+ subscriptions rose by 10% year-over-year during the quarter.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has also seen continued success, having shipped more than 70 million units worldwide. Notably, the title is currently enjoying its highest concurrent player count on Steam.
AnswerSee ResultsLooking ahead, 2025 promises to be a pivotal year for Take-Two. Alongside the recently launched Civilization 7 from Firaxis, upcoming titles include PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in summer, Grand Theft Auto 6 in fall, and Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 before the end of the year.
“We are exceedingly optimistic about the commercial potential of our titles and believe that they will have a transformative effect on our business—and our industry—over the long term,” Take-Two stated, expressing strong confidence in achieving record levels of net bookings in fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
