God of War Ragnarok's Dark Odyssey Marks 20 Years

Sony and game developer Santa Monica Studio have announced the Dark Odyssey collection, a free update for God of War Ragnarök coming next week. This release introduces in-game gear inspired by one of the series' most recognizable outfits.

In a recent PlayStation.Blog post, Sony outlined all the content included in its God of War 20th anniversary celebrations. The Dark Odyssey collection is the main event, offering a wealth of cosmetic items to all God of War Ragnarök players on PlayStation 5 and PC. It will launch as a free update on March 20.

Every item in the Dark Odyssey collection sports a sleek black-and-gold design, giving Kratos and his companions a sharp new look as they battle through the realms of Norse myth. Atreus and Freya also receive their own cosmetic armor sets in this patch, along with new appearances for various shields and weapons.

The standout feature, however, is a Dark Odyssey armor set and appearance for Kratos. This design pays homage to a special skin originally awarded only to players who completed God of War 2 on the challenging God Mode difficulty. Players can collect these items from any Lost Items chest in the main game or immediately in the Valhalla roguelike mode after the update. The patch will also finally allow players to change the look of Kratos’ weapons without affecting their unique abilities.

God of War Ragnarök launched in late 2022, and a single update isn't enough to honor the series' 20-year legacy. Sony's anniversary plans include a host of other activities and offers for long-time fans of Kratos' journey. Highlights include a collection of new social media assets (available for download here), an art exhibition through a collaboration with Los Angeles' Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, several vinyl releases chronicling the franchise's history, and more.
