Free Forever: Stardew Valley Creator Vows No More Paid DLC

Stardew Valley's Creator Promises Forever-Free DLC and Updates

Stardew Valley developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has pledged to never charge for future updates or downloadable content (DLC). This commitment was made directly to fans on Twitter (X), assuring them of continued free expansions and improvements to the beloved farming RPG.

Barone recently provided an update on the progress of Stardew Valley's ports and upcoming PC update, noting the development is taking longer than anticipated. He emphasized his daily work on the mobile port and promised an announcement when concrete release dates are available.

A fan's comment regarding the acceptance of free additions prompted Barone's emphatic response: "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This strong declaration solidified his commitment to providing ongoing free content for the game.

Stardew Valley, released in 2016, has consistently received significant updates enhancing gameplay and adding new features. The recent 1.6.9 update boasts additions such as new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, fresh outfits, late-game content, and quality-of-life improvements.

Barone's dedication extends beyond Stardew Valley; he's currently developing Haunted Chocolatier, although details on this new project remain scarce. His statement reflects a deep appreciation for the Stardew Valley community, further reinforced by his challenge to fans: "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath." This commitment ensures players can continue enjoying new content in the seven-year-old game without incurring any additional costs.
