Dragon Quest XII is in development, with updates to be shared gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the game. This is the first update since May 2024, following the passing of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, and the departure of producer Yu Miyake. Horii's statement addresses fan concerns regarding the game's status amidst recent Square Enix restructuring and a period without updates.
Announced during the series' 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The news follows Square Enix's announcement that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales expectations, reaching 2 million copies sold.
