Destiny 2 Year of Prophecy: Essential Guardian Guide

Authore: AlexisUpdate:May 26,2025

Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just revealed an exciting roadmap for the sci-fi shooter, Destiny 2, under the banner of "Year of Prophecy." This year promises four major content updates, including two new expansions and significant seasonal and core game enhancements for both paying and free-to-play players.

Kicking off the year is "Rite of the Nine," a free update available to all players. This update offers a fresh take on dungeon diving, appealing to both seasoned explorers and newcomers. You'll delve into familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but with unique twists and refreshed dungeon weapons, reconnecting you with Orin.

On July 15, the first paid expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, launches. This expansion marks the beginning of a multiyear saga centered around the mysterious Nine. Set on the new destination, Kepler, inspired by Destiny 2's dungeon and exploration elements, you'll encounter new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities. Two characters take the spotlight: the new ally Lodi and the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora.

Simultaneously on July 15, Bungie will introduce major core game innovations. These include revamped armor and gear systems to enhance buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This update allows players to easily choose between various ops like Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, designed for players seeking short, self-contained gameplay sessions. With 50 new modifiers, players can customize their gameplay deeply and chase specific rewards through curated activity rotations.

Following The Edge of Fate, the second major update, Ash & Iron, arrives on September 9, with the second expansion, Renegades, launching on December 2. Renegades draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements. The year concludes with the Shadow & Order update on March 3.

These updates and expansions come at a crucial time for Bungie, following significant layoffs in 2024. Despite these challenges, Bungie remains committed to delivering rich content for Destiny 2 while also developing the much-anticipated Marathon reboot, set to launch in September.
