Delisted FPS Games Might be Returning with PS5 and Xbox Series Ports

Summary

  • The Doom Slayers Collection, featuring four Doom games, may be returning to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S after its 2024 delisting.
  • ESRB ratings indicate a current-gen console release, excluding Switch and last-gen consoles.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel, is slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025.

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation of four Doom games, may be making a comeback on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This follows its delisting in 2024. The collection includes remasters of the original Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, and the 2016 Doom reboot.

Few games have had the genre-defining impact of 1993's Doom on the first-person shooter landscape. Developed by id Software, it pioneered 3D graphics, multiplayer, and user-created mods. Its success launched a sprawling franchise encompassing games and films. While a rumored Secret Level crossover never materialized, the return of a Doom game compilation, removed digitally in August 2024, seems increasingly likely.

Originally released in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the Doom Slayers Collection has received an "M" rating from the ESRB, hinting at its arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The ESRB listing specifies PC alongside these consoles, omitting Switch and last-gen systems, suggesting the digital version may not return to those platforms. Adding further credence to this is the recent ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is significant because the physical Doom Slayers Collection included a download code for a remastered Doom 64.

Games Included in Doom Slayers Collection

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom 3
  • Doom (2016)

It's noteworthy that Doom and Doom II were previously delisted before their re-release as Doom + Doom II on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. A similar current-gen release of the Doom Slayers Collection aligns with Bethesda's past practices. This would also mirror id Software's history of porting its games to current-gen consoles, as seen with Quake II.

Beyond the potential Doom Slayers Collection relaunch, fans eagerly await the Doom prequel, Doom: The Dark Ages. Scheduled for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, it promises a unique medieval twist on the sci-fi series.
