Idris Elba Wants a Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie With Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has expressed his strong desire for a live-action adaptation of the game, ideally starring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he shares the screen with Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film featuring both himself and Reeves would be incredible. He envisions a powerful on-screen pairing, stating, "I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."
Elba's enthusiasm isn't unfounded. Reeves' portrayal of Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 was iconic, while Elba's performance as Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC was equally well-received. The potential for a compelling cinematic collaboration is undeniable.
Further fueling this possibility, Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is indeed in development, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.
More Cyberpunk News: A Prequel Manga and Blu-Ray Release
Beyond the live-action prospect, fans can look forward to more Cyberpunk content. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also slated for 2025. And, most excitingly, CD Projekt Red has teased a new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series, promising further expansion of the franchise's universe.
