Coco and Avatar Land Locations Revealed at Disneyland, Mike & Sulley's Rescue Ride to Close

Authore: ZoeUpdate:Jun 12,2025

Disney has officially announced the future locations of two highly anticipated attractions at Disneyland: the upcoming Coco ride and a new Avatar-inspired land. According to details shared by the Disney Parks Blog, the Coco attraction will be built in areas currently used as backstage space near Disney California Adventure's Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. Meanwhile, the new Avatar destination will occupy a "portion" of the existing Hollywood Backlot area.

This also means that Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026 to make way for the Avatar expansion. The news was revealed alongside fresh concept art during D23 2024, where the Coco attraction was first announced. It will mark Disneyland’s first-ever ride based on the Academy Award-winning Pixar film.

The Coco attraction is being designed with inspiration from classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. The creative team promises to "bring our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way" using the latest Audio-Animatronic technology. These lifelike figures will appear in ways that are described as “you have to see to believe.”

As for the Avatar destination, it remains in the early stages of development. Additional updates regarding construction timelines and more specifics about the land will be shared at a later date. This immersive world will be inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and future Avatar films, bringing the vibrant world of Pandora to life in an all-new way.

Fans may recognize Pandora – The World of Avatar, which has been part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World since 2017. Now, guests visiting Disneyland will soon be able to experience their own version of this lush, bioluminescent world.

While the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is bittersweet for many, exciting developments await at Walt Disney World. Guests visiting Hollywood Studios will soon enjoy a brand-new Monsters, Inc.-themed land featuring the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney Park, taking riders through the iconic door warehouse in thrilling fashion.

In addition to these major theme park expansions, Disney confirmed plans for a new parking structure and transportation hub. It will be constructed on the east side of the Disneyland Resort, replacing part of the current Manchester cast member parking lot.

This state-of-the-art facility will offer approximately 6,000 parking spaces along with designated zones for shuttles, rideshares, and security screening. It will also provide dedicated traffic access off of Disney Way, helping to improve overall traffic flow and guest arrival experience. A pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard will connect to an all-new esplanade entrance, offering direct access to and from Harbor Boulevard itself.
