Bandai Namco to Shut Down PAC-MAN Mobile Game

Bandai Namco has officially announced the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, marking the end of an era for one of mobile gaming’s longest-running titles. The decision comes as a bittersweet note, especially as the beloved PAC-MAN franchise celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. Originally launched over a decade ago, this mobile iteration—formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments—has offered players more than just nostalgic arcade action.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The final day for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. As of April 1st, 2025, in-app purchases have already been disabled. However, players can continue enjoying the game until the official shutdown date.

Many fans have voiced their disappointment over the decision to fully retire the game rather than transitioning it to an offline mode. Keeping it playable offline would not only preserve its legacy but also allow continued access for loyal players—and potentially maintain a small revenue stream through existing downloads.

What Made PAC-MAN Mobile Special?

This version of PAC-MAN was much more than a simple re-release of the classic arcade game. Alongside the timeless 8-bit Arcade Mode, it featured a Story Mode packed with original mazes, offering a fresh twist on the familiar gameplay.

The Adventure Mode introduced limited-time, themed events where players could unlock exclusive character skins and visual upgrades. Meanwhile, Tournament Mode kept the competition alive with weekly challenges across three difficulty levels, encouraging players to sharpen their skills and climb the ranks.

The game also offered a wide variety of customization options, including unique skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, and even the on-screen joystick—adding a personal touch to the retro experience.

The Reason Behind the Shutdown

Over the past few years, PAC-MAN Mobile has struggled with persistent bugs and technical issues. Despite its early popularity—especially on Android, where players once competed fiercely for top leaderboard spots—the growing number of unresolved problems likely contributed to Bandai Namco’s decision to retire the title rather than invest in further updates.

If you'd like to relive the nostalgia one last time before it's gone, you can still download PAC-MAN Mobile from the Google Play Store while it remains available.
