"Amazon Slashes PlayStation Portal Price to $148: Like New"

Authore: EthanUpdate:Jun 14,2025

The PlayStation Portal has always maintained its full retail price—until now. While there’s never been an official discount for a brand-new unit, savvy shoppers can now grab a Used: Like New model through Amazon Resale (formerly known as Amazon Warehouse) for just $148, a significant drop from the standard $199 MSRP. That’s a 26% saving on Sony’s innovative remote streaming device.

While it's technically a used unit, "Like New" condition means it looks and functions exactly as if it came fresh out of the box. Moderate packaging damage may be present, but nothing that affects performance. A Sony warranty may not always be included, but Amazon Resale products are backed by the same 30-day return policy as new purchases—giving you peace of mind with your order.

Update: The price has now dipped even lower to $150.23, making this the best deal yet for a Used: Like New PlayStation Portal.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony’s dedicated handheld companion for the PS5, designed to look like a hybrid between a DualSense controller and a compact gaming device. It features an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled between two extended grip sections, offering full access to your PS5 library via remote play streaming at up to 60fps.

Originally, the Portal was limited to streaming only from a locally connected PS5, which restricted its appeal. However, recent updates have expanded its functionality—now allowing direct cloud streaming through PlayStation Now, without needing a physical PS5. This opens the door to over 120 compatible titles, including Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part I, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Just keep in mind: to take advantage of cloud streaming, you must subscribe to the top tier of PlayStation Plus, currently priced at $18/month—a much more accessible entry point than purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

Please note: The PlayStation Portal is not a standalone console. Whether you're connecting it to your home PS5 or using cloud servers, it requires a stable and fast internet connection to deliver smooth gameplay. Without that, performance may suffer.

While alternatives like the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices or other handhelds (e.g., Steam Deck) exist, they often lack the seamless integration and feature support found in the Portal—especially when it comes to haptics, adaptive triggers, and touchscreen controls.

Expert Insight: PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device I've ever come away from loving after going in loaded with skepticism. It's such a better experience than using your phone with a slap-on controller, and it works so much better than I was anticipating. I really love the freedom it gives me to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage, especially when the rest of my family was using the TV to (somewhat ironically) play the Switch."

He adds:

"Bearing in mind that it’s in no way a stand-alone device and 100% requires a PlayStation 5 to function at all, the biggest things keeping the Portal from being a truly amazing device are its current lack of a way to access WiFi that requires a web browser to log in, and its lack of Bluetooth support for audio. For now, it's a great device that represents the best current solution for PlayStation Remote Play, and if it weren't for those two baffling caveats, I'd call this a must-own device for every PS5 owner who enjoys playing games on handheld—or has to compete for the household TV."
