How To Access the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

Since Fields of Mistria entered Steam Early Access, the Deep Woods has tantalizingly appeared on the town map, yet remained frustratingly inaccessible—until the March 2025 update, that is! This guide reveals how to unlock this new area and finally meet Caldarus.

Unlocking the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

The key to unlocking the Deep Woods lies in breaking the Fire Seal and utilizing the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to melt away the obstructing vines. This requires a specific offering to the Priestess's Fire Seal altar (Floor 60 of the mines): a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three are found on floors 50-59. However, obtaining the Sealing Scroll requires a little help from your companions, Juniper and Balor.

To secure the scroll, leave these items in the bin near Balor's wagon: 10 Silver Ingots, 10 Rubies, 10 Sapphires, and 10 Emeralds. Speak to Balor again the following day; he'll confirm the scroll's arrival. With the complete offering, proceed to the altar.

Breaking the seal usually involves a simple farewell from the Priestess. But here, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess urgently requests your departure before the scroll seals you within the mines! As your health plummets, Caldarus dramatically appears, assuming his human form and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to recuperate. He then tasks you with finding him there, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell in the process.

This powerful spell not only burns through the Deep Woods entrance but also unlocks other previously inaccessible areas. Equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it while facing the entrance to permanently clear the path.

Finding Caldarus

After breaking the seal, Caldarus awaits within his temple in the Deep Woods, located north of the Eastern Road. Use Dragon’s Breath to access the area. His location is clearly marked on your map. You'll find him in the northeast corner.

The path requires a bit of effort; use your axe to clear a fallen stump blocking the entrance. Proceed north until you reach the temple where Caldarus patiently waits.

Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, utilize the Dragon Statue on your farm for convenient fast travel (10 Essence). This saves valuable time compared to traveling on foot or horseback. While you can fast travel, you can still interact with Caldarus's statue.
