11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled another trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as the game nears its release date. In a nod to their legacy, the creators have also taken a moment to reflect on their iconic wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to global fame over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and bleak atmosphere, The Alters takes a different approach, embracing a narrative that is both passionate and infused with humor. This new title focuses on the trials of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.

Although set in entirely different worlds, both games are centered around the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of a war-torn city, managing scarce resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a desperate race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.

Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in pursuit of essential resources. The primary distinction between them is the nature of their protagonists: This War of Mine involves managing a group of diverse civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
