Joseph Kosinski devrait diriger une nouvelle adaptation de l'emblématique série de police de NBC, Miami Vice , pour Universal, selon The Hollywood Reporter. Le script du film sera écrit par le réalisateur-réalisateur de Nightcrawler , Dan Gilroy, qui s'appuie sur un premier projet de Top Gun: le scénariste Maverick, Eric Warren Singer. Gilroy a récemment été impliqué dans la rédaction de plusieurs épisodes de la célèbre série Star Wars Andor , créée par son frère, Tony Gilroy.

Miami Vice , créé par Anthony Yerkovich et produit par Michael Mann, a couru pendant cinq saisons de 1984 à 1989. La série, avec Don Johnson et Philip Michael Thomas en tant que détectives Crockett et Tubbs, est célébré pour révolutionner la télévision avec son style, son son unique, son sain et son flair visuel. L'influence de l'émission s'est étendue à une adaptation cinématographique de 2006 réalisée par Michael Mann, qui mettait en vedette Jamie Foxx et Colin Farrell.

Bien que des détails spécifiques sur le nouveau film de Miami vice soient rares, il est clair que ce projet ne sera pas le prochain effort pour Kosinski, qui sort de la sortie de F1 en juin.
