Stephen King insta a la cancelación de los Oscar debido a los incendios forestales de Los Ángeles

El estimado autor Stephen King ha instado a la Academia de Artes y Ciencias de Motion Motion a cancelar la 97ª Ceremonia anual de premios de los Oscar debido a que los incendios forestales en curso que devuelven a Los Ángeles.

Según Deadline, King declaró que no votaría en los premios de este año y cree que deberían ser cancelados, citando la falta de "brillo" en Los Ángeles en medio de los incendios devastadores. Los incendios forestales, que comenzaron el 7 de enero, han cobrado al menos 27 vidas y continúan ardiendo.

"No votar en los Oscar este año", expresó King en Bluesky. "En mi opinión honesta, deberían cancelarlos. No hay brillo con Los Ángeles en llamas".

En respuesta a la crisis, la Academia anunció el 13 de enero que estaba ajustando su calendario de 2025, aunque no se ha tomado una decisión para cancelar el evento por completo. Sin embargo, el almuerzo nominado a los Oscar fue cancelado.

El período de votación se ha extendido hasta hoy, 17 de enero, y el anuncio de nominaciones ahora está programado para el 23 de enero. La ceremonia de los Oscars 97 permanece programado para el 2 de marzo.

"Todos estamos devastados por el impacto de los incendios y las profundas pérdidas experimentadas por tantos en nuestra comunidad", dijeron el CEO Bill Kramer y la presidenta Janet Yang en un comunicado que acompaña los cambios en el horario.
