Author's scanwords and crosswords for you

Our second Sloword app is now available. The link is on the first screen when you open the app (just tap the picture) or in the Settings menu under "Other Apps." Give this modern twist on classic crosswords a try.

Russian scanwords are truly a global phenomenon. You won't find another language with so many literary, witty, and culturally relevant clues packed into ordinary grids. It seems simple, yet it's profound. The Russian people have a deep connection with language. They cherish words, honor them, and treat them as something invaluable.

The app offers a wide variety of scanwords—ranging from easy to challenging, featuring photos, classic clues, or associative hints. Find puzzles like "one word" or "one word, two words," reminiscent of Elder Fur's clever tips. Each magazine issue includes one English-Russian scanword and one "holey" puzzle—you'll see why it's called that. A cheerful character from our family greets you on every page. Come join the fun!

All scanwords are completely free for readers. This is an annual collection with 52–53 issues, each containing 20 puzzles. A full year's worth of scanwords takes up only about 50 MB on your phone—images are small and text is just text. We respect your device's storage.

You don't need an internet connection to solve puzzles once the magazines are downloaded. New issues are released every Friday. If you keep notifications on, you'll get a weekly reminder every Friday at 12:00 local time. When you open the app, new issues download automatically and won't repeat if successful. You can also manually download or delete individual magazines, or use the Settings to download all past issues in one tap.

Core features, including access to all scanwords, are free in the app. This is supported by advertising. You'll see one narrow banner per page and one interstitial ad before opening a puzzle—but ads never interrupt your solving flow. Our advertiser also rewards you with free hints for watching short videos.

Any reader can choose to remove ads by: a) disabling them permanently, b) subscribing to turn off ads and get unlimited hints, or c) buying hints in bulk. All options are available in the "Shop" section.
