Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide To Enchantments & Weapon Forging

Authore: JulianUpdate:Feb 23,2025

This guide details the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley 1.6, explaining how to enhance tools and weapons.

Volcano Forge Cinder Shard Node

Obtaining Cinder Shards: The Volcano Forge requires Cinder Shards. Obtain them by:

  • Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
  • Receiving them as drops from Magma Sprites (50%), Magma Duggies (40%), Magma Sparkers (50%), and False Magma Caps (50%).
  • Harvesting them from a fishing pond with 7+ Stingrays (7-9% daily chance, 2-5 shards).

Cinder Shards cannot be created in a Crystalarium.

The Mini-Forge: After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge:

  • 5 Dragon Teeth
  • 10 Iron Bars
  • 10 Gold Bars
  • 5 Iridium Bars

The Mini-Forge functions identically to the Volcano Dungeon forge.

Weapon Forging: Gemstones enhance weapons (up to three times). Costs increase with each forge:

  • First forge: 10 Cinder Shards + Gemstone
  • Second forge: 15 Cinder Shards + Gemstone
  • Third forge: 20 Cinder Shards + Gemstone

Gemstone Effects:

  • Amethyst: +1 Knockback per forge.
  • Aquamarine: +4.6% Crit Chance per forge.
  • Emerald: +2/+3/+2 Speed per forge (cumulative).
  • Jade: +10% Crit Damage per forge.
  • Ruby: +10% Damage per forge.
  • Topaz: +1 Defense per forge.
  • Diamond: 10 Cinder Shards for 3 random upgrades.

Best Weapon Upgrades: Prioritize Emerald & Ruby for high DPS, or Topaz & Amethyst for survivability.

Unforging Weapons: Place the weapon in the left slot and select the red X to remove all forging (recovering some shards, but not the gemstone). Enchantments remain.

Infinity Weapons: Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer using 3 Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each per soul). Keeps existing upgrades and enchantments.

Galaxy Souls: Obtain via:

  • Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems each).
  • Big Slime drops (Dangerous Mines, Qi quests).
  • Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars, last day of season).
  • Drops from Dangerous Monsters (after 50 kills).

Enchantments: Use a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards for a random enchantment on any tool or melee weapon. Enchantments cannot be chosen.

Weapon Enchantments:

  • Artful: Halved special move cooldown.
  • Bug Killer: Doubles damage against bugs, kills Armored Bugs.
  • Crusader: Doubles damage against undead, permanently kills mummies.
  • Vampiric: 9% chance to regain health on kill.
  • Haymaker: Double fiber/33% hay chance from weeds.

Tool Enchantments: (Random, tool-specific)

  • Auto-Hook (Fishing Rod): Instant hook.
  • Archeologist (Hoe/Pan): Artifact finding boost.
  • Bottomless (Watering Can): Unlimited water.
  • Efficient (Various): No energy drain.
  • Fisher (Pan): Chance to catch fish.
  • Generous (Hoe/Pan): Double item find chance.
  • Master (Fishing Rod): +1 Fishing.

  • Reaching (Hoe/Watering Can/Pan): 5x5 area of effect.
  • Shaving (Axe): Increased wood/resource drops.
  • Swift (Axe/Hoe/Pickaxe): 33% faster.

Best Tool Enchantments: Generally, Bottomless (Watering Can), Shaving (Axe), and Preserving (Fishing Rod) are highly valued. Others depend on playstyle.
