Keanu Reeves has provided the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. The actor, who played the iconic occult detective and exorcist John Constantine in the original film, confirmed that a pitch for *Constantine 2* has been approved by DC Studios, signaling that the project is moving forward to the scriptwriting phase.
"We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves revealed in an interview with Inverse. This statement marks a significant milestone for fans who have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up to the film that followed Reeves' success with *The Matrix*.
However, while the news is promising, it's important to note that there's no guarantee that *Constantine 2* will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel is not yet a confirmed project in the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as part of their future plans. Thus, the project remains on the edge of development.
Reeves also hinted that if *Constantine 2* comes to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, adding with humor, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who, speaking to ComicBook, revealed that a script for *Constantine 2* is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being too apprehensive to read it, stating, "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
