No voy a mentir: este se pica. El productor de las precuelas de Star Wars, Rick McCallum, reveló recientemente que la legendaria serie cancelada Star Wars: Underworld habría costado la friolera de $ 40 millones por episodio, condenarlo efectivamente para ser eliminado por razones presupuestarias.

En una entrevista en el joven podcast de Indy Chronicles, McCallum explicó: "El problema era que cada episodio era más grande que las películas. Por lo tanto, lo más bajo que pude lograr con la tecnología que existía era $ 40 millones por episodio". Agregó que la incapacidad de realizar con éxito el proyecto a lo largo de los años sigue siendo "una de las grandes decepciones de nuestras vidas".

Con 60 guiones de "tercer borrador" escritos que mostraron el universo de Star Wars en formas "sexy, violentas, oscuras, desafiantes, complicadas y maravillosas" de "los escritores más maravillosos del mundo", parece que el presupuesto fue el verdadero asesino en la cuna para este proyecto. Con 60 guiones de $ 40 millones por episodio, el costo total se habría disparado bien en la marca de $ 1 mil millones, y parece que incluso el propio George Lucas no podría buscar ese tipo de efectivo a principios de la década de 2000.

"[Hubiera invertido todo el universo de Star Wars y Disney definitivamente nunca habría ofrecido a George para comprar la franquicia", agregó McCallum. La serie fue realmente eliminada una vez que Disney tomó el control de Lucasfilm y Lucas se hizo a un lado.
